Treating impingement syndrome specifically.
Pain when lifting overhead or at night? Shoulder impingement syndrome is treatable — when you find the right balance of mobilisation and strength building.
Book appointmentWhat's behind it?
In shoulder impingement syndrome — also called entrapment syndrome — the tendons of the rotator cuff are pinched under the acromion, especially during overhead movements. The cause is usually an imbalance of the shoulder blade stabilisers and reduced mobility. We analyse the shoulder mechanics and treat with a combination of manual therapy and targeted strength building.
Causes
- Imbalance of the shoulder blade stabilisers
- Reduced mobility of the thoracic spine
- Repetitive overhead loading (sport, work)
- Bone spurs under the acromion
Symptoms
- Pain when lifting the arm sideways or overhead
- Painful arc between 60 and 120 degrees of arm elevation
- Night pain, especially on the affected side
- Feeling of weakness when lifting objects
How we treat Impingement Syndrome.
Assessment
Analysis of shoulder mechanics and identification of the entrapment.
Mobilisation
Improving shoulder blade mobility and thoracic spine.
Rotator cuff
Targeted strength building of the tendons and shoulder blade stabilisers.
Load building
Gradual return to overhead activities in daily life and sport.
