Meniscus Injury

What's behind it?

The meniscus is a fibrocartilaginous cushion in the knee joint that absorbs shock and stabilises the joint. Injuries occur either acutely through twisting movements or gradually through wear and tear. Depending on the type and severity, conservative treatment is possible or surgery is needed. In both cases, we guide you with targeted physiotherapy back to pain-free load capacity.

Causes

  • Twisting movements under load (sport, accident)
  • Degenerative changes with age
  • Combined injuries with ACL tear
  • Repeated improper loading of the knee joint

Symptoms

  • Pain on the inside or outside of the knee
  • Swelling, especially after activity
  • Feeling of catching or locking of the knee joint
  • Pain when squatting or climbing stairs
